Landscape’s memory

Field and plot names structure the landscape and serve as orientation points. They usually originate from oral dialect and reflect usage, ownership, or local myths. In the museum, the areas bear names such as “Kreuzkamp” and “Hundewiese” (“dog meadow”), which refer to historical events or former uses. Some of the names are misleading and require specialist knowledge. Today, the names help the museum team with planning and organization.
